What is a location but a point in time or on a map? When you think about where to live, where to study or work, location should come to the top of your list. For most budget-friendly people, like me, we don’t think that we have a choice but to live in the location of where we live and that is that. But that is not true at all. Location is one of the most underrated topics of our society. Most people are just about their budget and where they think they can buy, that’s where they will live. Unless someone is spiritually aware as shown in the verse below, God cares about your location.

2 Samuel 7:10-11 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies.

Certain places carry different energies which affect you differently.Have you ever gone to a place where you felt at home or you felt like you should run? You might say, how does what one feels matter? I will reply and say that how one feels is extremely important. When you feel happy and excited, you can create a life you want. When the opposite happens and you feel sad and depressed, you don’t want to create anything. We are a sum of our emotions. Yes, emotions should not rule over us but there is no denying that certain places will make you feel a certain way. 

Safety is important. Unsafe neighbourhoods are for people who are doing something shady. The idea of your children playing outside shouldn’t scare you. You don’t want to live in a location where if you park your car, you are forced to check on it constantly. Maybe to an extent that you can’t even fall asleep. If you know that there is a lot of crime in your location, you will live a life of tip-toeing around and always checking over your shoulder. Safety is priceless.

Don’t be an eagle in a chicken coup. If you are blessed and can live in a different location to where you started, please do so. I have met people who live in the same neighbourhoods since birth, not because they can’t afford to leave, but because they are being loyal. This is a common trait among black people, especially in Africa. I call it blind loyalty. They think that if they move far away from home, they have lost their roots or something like that.

I always wonder why they think that. My parents did that to us as children and I hated it then and I still resent it to this day. If you are the only one employed in a professional job on your street, maybe even the only employed, you are on the wrong street. You are most definitely in the wrong location. Upgrading yourself is not abandoning your roots, it is growth.

There are some locations, neighborhoods that just ooze prestige. You can just tell people where you live and we will know that life has been kind to you. Your postcode reveals your wealth status. This is as important to some as their career. There is nothing wrong with a little prestige. Life is short, please enjoy it the best way you can. Not to mention that certain locations, postcodes come with certain perks, especially here in the UK. There are certain medical procedures that are only offered in certain postcodes. Unfair, yes. But it’s true. Prestige gives you a boost in confidence and that is a good gift to give yourself. 

Most opportunities are found in better neighbourhoods. Good schools for better opportunities. Not to mention jobs, progress of any kind and ability to move up socially and economically. Sometimes, we get it backwards that opportunities lead to better schools but it’s both better schools lead to better opportunities and better opportunities lead to better schools. Give your children better opportunities than you had, if you can. Certain careers and jobs can also only be found in certain locations. 

You cannot be a priest and live in a whore house. Where you live is extremely important so choose wisely. Budget is one part of the equation but think things through or wait and save money for a better location. Don’t be loyally blind to your relatives and friends from old. Move where you want to and doors of new friendships will open for you. Obsession with owning a house is not worth it. House ownership can make you compromise your taste and future. Live in the right location and own a house there. Don’t compromise your life and your children’s future for your obsession to own a house. 

God cares about your location. People’s locations in the bible, led to their blessings. For example, the Samaritan woman. Abram leaves Ur of the Chaldeans in the book of Genesis. Would Abram have been blessed if he never left? Your location, your neighbourhood matters.

Genesis 12:1-2 Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
